Awkward

Harry Kane’s debut for Bayern Munich went as badly as you could expect as his wait for a trophy goes on.

Despite signing on Saturday morning, the forward was thrusted into the spotlight straightaway and named as a substitute for the DFL Supercup final against RB Leipzig.

Kane was introduced in the second half, by which point Bayern were already 2-0 down, but the new number nine couldn’t help his new teammates find a way back into the game as Leipzig scored a third and took home the first piece of silverware in Germany this season.

Dani Olmo was the star of the show as he scored a hat-trick. The third of those was from the penalty spot however Bayern Munich’s players felt that the referee’s decision to penalise Noussair Mazraoui for an adjudged handball was the wrong call and surrounded him to protest.

Bayern’s new signing was one of those who went up to complain however he quickly backed down, with his German most likely not at the level to argue with the officials just yet.

After the game, Thomas Tuchel apologised to his new star man for the performance of his side.

“I’m just sorry for him. He probably thinks we haven’t trained for four weeks. Our performance today had nothing to do with what we set out to do. It’s a very bitter evening, I’m sorry,” he said.

I feel sorry for him but he wanted to play, he was ready to play and we decided to give him some minutes, why shouldn’t we? I feel sorry, we didn’t create for him. But he’ll help us.

“Harry will start against Bremen and will play every game. He’s our number nine.”
