Haller has returned to Dortmund for further tests

Sebastien Haller has left Borussia Dortmund’s preseason training camp after discovering a testicular tumour, the German club have announced.

The former West Ham striker, who recently joined Dortmund from Ajax, had been preparing for the season with his new team in Switzerland on Monday when he complained that he felt unwell.

After undergoing medical examinations, a tumour was discovered in his testicle.

The 28-year-old has now gone back to Dortmund where he will undergo further tests.

“Sebastien Haller had to leave the #BVB training camp in Bad Ragaz due to illness and has already traveled back to Dortmund,” a tweet from the club explained.  “During examinations, a testicular tumour was discovered.”

Haller and Dortmund ‘shocked’

Sebastian Kehl, Dortmund’s sporting director, said: “This news today came as a shock to Sebastien Haller and everyone else.

“The entire BVB family hopes that Sebastien makes a full recovery as soon as possible and that we can give him a hug again soon.

“We’ll do everything in our power to ensure that he receives the best possible treatment.”

The Ivory Coast striker scored 34 times for Ajax last season – the best goalscoring season of his career. 11 of his goals came in eight Champions League games, but Ajax were eliminated by Benfica in the last-16 stage.

He moved to Dortmund as Erling Haaland agreed a move to Manchester City.
