George Weah eat your heart out
We regret to inform you that former Arsenal winger and fan-irritator Gervinho is once again, at it.
He is back at it. He is doing things like this: picking up the ball deep inside his own half and surging over, through, and past multiple defenders like he’s spent the last few years watching Kaká highlight reels.
Despite the usual jest surrounding his hair – and his head, his big, big, giant, gigantic head – and the fact he never really showed more than the occasional flash of brilliance during his short two-year stint at the Gunners, Gervinho was still a bit of a player.
He won Ligue 1 at Lille all the way back in 2011, scoring 15 league goals from the wing as part of an electric front three with Moussa Sow and a certain Eden Hazard.
Even during his time at Roma after leaving Arsenal, he showed that perhaps there was still a player beneath that infamous black headband that did absolutely nothing before he effectively shrugged, said “fuck it”, and moved to China to play for Hebei China Fortune for a truck full of money and some rice farms.
But now he is back in Serie A with the newly promoted Parma and today he did this during their 2-0 win over Cagliari. It’s quite special.

The goal even led BT Sport’s resident Italophile James Horncastle, the smooth-talking Head & Shoulders advert turned football pundit, to compare the goal to George Weah’s famous solo run through the Verona team for AC Milan in 1996.

I mean, Weah, obviously. But still. Gervinho’s isn’t half bad.
