Georgia player acts quickly to help unconscious Robbie Brady after sickening head clash

No one wants to see this happening

Republic of Ireland player Robbie Brady was involved in a sickening clash of heads during the 1-0 win over Georgia at the Aviva Stadium.

In the second-half, Shane Long headed the ball back across Georgia’s penalty area, and Brady attacked it. However, Solomon Kverkvelia also went for the ball and collided with the 24-year-old.

Brady was stretchered off the pitch wearing a neck brace, receiving a warm round of applause from the concerned crowd in Dublin.

The FAI have since tweeted saying that Brady was conscious in the dressing room. The Norwich player has been taken to hospital and received a scan as a precaution.

He’s unlikely to feature in Ireland’s game against Moldova, and we’ll update you when we know more about his condition.

Guram Kashia helped Brady following the collision. The Georgian captain acted quickly when Brady was laid-out following the clash of heads, rolling him onto his side and ensuring his airway was clear.

A word of warning, these are distressing images.

Ireland’s victory over Georgia leaves them fourth in Group D, but level on points with Wales, Austria and Serbia.

Only the top team in the group is guaranteed automatic qualification to the 2018 World Cup in Russia, though the eight best runners-up will make it to the play-off stage.
