When it emerged that Georges St-Pierre and head coach Firas Zahabi would be appearing on Monday evening’s edition of The MMA Hour together, many fight fans believed the official announcement of St-Pierre’s return was imminent.

St-Pierre has toyed with the idea of a comeback, and our emotions in the process, for some time now but a return date has yet to be confirmed.

The welterweight legend remained vague on Monday night, refusing to be drawn by the questions of Ariel Helwani about the ongoing negotiations with the UFC and the rumours of an offer to fight 170 lbs champion Robbie Lawler at UFC 200.

“I cannot comment on that,” St-Pierre said of the potential Lawler match-up. “If there is any announcing for fighting, it’s going to be the UFC that will decide how they want to do that.

“I don’t want to go out of the way and say anything myself. It’s a question of respect! If the UFC want to do something and if there’s a deal in place, it’s going to be on their terms.

“They’re the ones that will decide how to announce it and it’s not going to be up to me to try to steal the show and make it about to myself like ‘hey, here I am. I’m coming back.’

“No, it’s going to be the UFC. They’re going to make it to promote the fight for the both of us, for me and my opponent.”
