Valencia respond as kids lose appeal against controversial shoot-out defeat

Gary Neville didn't attempt to hide his feelings when Valencia's youngsters exited the UEFA Youth League after a controversial penalty shoot-out.

After Los Che drew 1-1 with Chelsea, the match officials ruled that  Alberto Gil’s spot kick hadn't crossed the line in the game's shoot out, although it clearly had. All remaining spot-kicks for both sides were successful, meaning Valencia lost the shoot-out 5-4. Describing the decision as 'scandalous', Neville will be even more disappointed at the result of Valencia's appeal into the incident. It was confirmed on Monday afternoon that UEFA had rejected Valencia's protests against the validity of the match result. The club were quick to respond, expressing  disappointment in the following statement: 'The club regrets the decision taken by the UEFA. We wish to encourage our young players to continue to be motivated and believe in the fair play of football. 'We trust that UEFA will give an appropriate response at the level required by the situation, after it has had the opportunity to analyse our appeal. 'Finally, Valencia wish to thank the sportsmanship of Chelsea for having recognised that the disallowed penalty had gone in.'
