Gary Lineker has an important reminder for those angered by Fifa 17’s new ratings

It's just a game, people...

Ahead of the launch of Fifa 17 on Septeber 27, EA Sports have been releasing information on players’ ratings for the game.

The top three rated players in the game have been revealed, and while no-one was surprised to see Neymar, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi make the cut, the order has annoyed some.

Ronaldo is rated higher than Messi and some view the decision from EA as being akin to blasphemy.

If that wasn’t bad enough for Messi fans, EA have only gone and rated Dimitri Payet as a (slightly) better passer.

While the Fifa series is popular the world over and gives countless hours of entertainment to millions of people, it’s probably better not to read too much into the ratings.

Because, you know, it’s just a game.

Gary Lineker, who also appears on the game as one of its legends, reminded us of all of this point when he tweeted about the Messi / Payet comparison on Friday evening.

But then someone had to go and point out the Match of the Day host’s ratings, didn’t they?

@GaryLineker atleast your passing stats are sexy! pic.twitter.com/lcC41su8pu

Don’t worry Gary, it’s a game. It’s not real.
