Gabriel Oghre signs new contract extension at Bristol

Bristol Bears welcome Gabriel Oghre back

The 28-year-old has made 63 appearances since joining Bristol in 2023, scoring 26 tries during his time at the club. 

His performances have also earned him international recognition, with Oghre making his England debut against the USA in July 2025.

He will now head into the 2026-27 Premiership season having returned to full training following a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Oghre’s previous campaign was cut short after he injured his knee during Bristol’s trip to Newcastle. 

The problem required surgery and kept him out for the closing months of the season, but he has now recovered in time to rejoin the squad.

The new contract comes with Bristol yet to reveal how long Oghre has committed his future to the club.

Pat Lam believes Gabriel Oghre has not reached his full potential yet

Director of rugby Pat Lam believes there is still plenty more to come from the 28-year-old.

“Gabs has developed into one of the leading hookers in the Prem,” Lam said. “He's been outstanding for us over the past couple of seasons.”

Lam also praised Oghre’s athleticism, physical strength and overall skill set, saying those qualities fit closely with how Bristol want to play.

With Oghre now entering his prime years, Lam added: “The most exciting thing is we believe his best is still to come.”

Before settling at Bristol, Oghre represented Wasps, Leicester and Bordeaux-Bègles. He now has the chance to continue his development with the Bears after the club opted to extend his stay.
