‘Relax before I snatch that wig off!’
Galatasaray defender Patrick van Aanholt has called out Marseille midfielder Matteo Guendouzi on Twitter following a clash in the game between the two sides on Thursday night.
Both former Premier League players, ex-Arsenal man Guendouzi wasn’t happy after a VAR call didn’t go his way after he felt he was fouled in the box by van Aanholt and both took to social media to voice their opinions in fine fashion.
The match itself was marred by violent scenes between the two sets of supporters in the stands, which had to be halted for a brief moment and it seemed that it worked its way onto the pitch, after Guendouzi protested with the referee to give a penalty, which he did before being overturned.
The Frenchman has been known for his antics on the pitch before and former Crystal Palace full-back van Aanholt made his feelings clear, tweeting: “Running your mouth after VAR proved you wrong… likkleman needs to relax before I snatch that wig off your head ??♂️ ? Well done to my lions ? for a well earned point on the roads ?❤️”

To add extra salt to the wounds, the 31-year-old added a GIF at the bottom of his post, showing Guendouzi having his hair pulled back by former Manchester United Marouane Fellaini during a Premier League fixture back in his Arsenal days.
Whilst the 22-year-old didn’t take to Twitter to make his response, he was questioned during the post-match interview as he explained why he felt he should have been awarded a penalty and why both the referee and VAR were wrong.
He said:”The player (Van Aanholt) didn’t get the ball. He threw me off balance as I got into the box at full speed.
“It’s clearly a penalty. The player does nothing but throw me off balance. It’s annoying. Ten minutes just to check a penalty that should have been a penalty and then to not give anything afterwards…”
