The pair clashed after Argentina’s World Cup win against the Netherlands

Three months after winning the World Cup, footage of Lionel Messi’s spat with Wout Weghorst has emerged online.

The pair clashed after Argentina beat the Netherlands on penalties in the quarter finals before going on to win the competition for the first time since 1986.

Both sides had issued a war of words with each other in the build up and it continued after the game as Messi berated Weghorst – who came off the bench to score the two goals to take the game to 2-2 – during his post-match interview.

Now, three months on since the incident, full footage of what happened has been released.

Weghorst can be seen loitering around, waiting for Messi, which clearly angered the Paris Saint-Germain star.

“What are you doing here?” he asks twice, before adding, “Get out of here fool.”

Despite the instruction, Weghorst can be seen offering his hand out to Messi however the 35-year-old ignored the request of a handshake and walked off.

Manchester United’s on-loan striker explained afterwards, saying: “I was waiting for him, and wanted to give him a hand.

Lisandro Martinez, who is now Weghorst’s teammate at United, also appeared to criticise the Dutchman for his behaviour at the time.

“And yeah, he’s doing like that,” said Martinez “and that’s disrespectful” however it is not known what the defender may have been referring to.

Whether Weghorst’s intentions were good or no, we’ll never know but either way, it was clear that Messi was not happy.
