Frank Lampard’s departure from NYCFC devastates the club’s fans

Not for the first time in the last few days, huge news reaches us from the United States of America.

Days after learning that Donald Trump will be the country's new President by January, we've now discovered that Frank Lampard probably won't be sticking around on that side of the Atlantic much longer. In the unlikely case that he does, he certainly won't be a New York City FC player. It was confirmed by the club this afternoon that Lampard is set to leave the Bronx-based club following the conclusion of his contract. Lampard announced that he would be joining NYCFC in July 2014 when it had become clear that Chelsea, the club at which he'd spent the majority of his career, would not be extending his contract. After spending part of the 2014-15 season at Manchester City - NYCFC's sister club - Lampard made the move, making his debut against Montreal Impact on August 1, 2015. Although not helped by injury in his early weeks in the Big Apple, Lampard's announcement showed that he'd done enough in his relatively short time with the club to leave a lasting impression with its fans and writing his name into the long, illustrious history of the club that didn't even exist a couple of years ago.
