Former Chelsea manager is a leading candidate to replace Arsene Wenger this summer

Carlo Ancelotti is reportedly in the running to replace Arsene Wenger at the end of the season.

Ancelotti has been out of work since last September, when he was sacked by Bayern Munich after an unremarkable start to the season with the Bundesliga giants. Last month, he was rumoured to have started the process of moving back to London with the aim of returning to former club Chelsea but, according to the latest reports in London's Evening Standard, the 58-year-old is actually in the running to take over at Arsenal. Wenger extended his contract at the Emirates at the end of last season but he's found himself under more pressure than ever before after watching his side crash out of the FA Cup to Championship side Nottingham Forest on Sunday afternoon. Out of the Premier League title race, eliminated from the FA Cup, competing in the Europa League and with two of the club's star players desperate to leave the Gunners, it's been a rough few months for Wenger and his 22-year spell at Arsenal's helm could well be brought to an end if fans criticism continues to intensify. The possibility also exists that Wenger will cut his contract short and, if that happens, the Arsenal board would give serious consideration to bringing Ancelotti on board. Ancelotti guided Chelsea to a league and FA Cup double in the 2009/10 season and has experience of competing at the pinnacle of European football, with Champions League triumphs for both AC Milan and Real Madrid.
