Sterling's family were not at home during the time of the break-in however the Chelsea winger wanted to return home as soon as possible to ensure they were safe.
England boss Gareth Southgate has offered his support to Sterling and his family but said he couldn't be sure if the 27-year-old would return to the squad for the remainder of the tournament.
"I really don't know, it's a situation he needs time to deal with, I don't want to put any pressure on him.
"Sometimes football isn't the most important thing and family should come first."
Captain Harry Kane also wished Sterling and his family the best and said that the whole of the squad are behind him.
"Our thoughts are with him and his family. It is a private matter with him, but it's never easy to see one or your team-mates and friends have to deal with something like that.
"We will take it day by day and take the best decision for him and his family.From us as a team we send him our best and hope to see him as soon as possible."
