The Tartan Army on the lookout for new recruits

Scotland have their eyes set on five talented English stars as they look to strengthen their options even further.

According to The Sun, several names have been discussed ahead of a possible switch of international allegiance this summer.

Among those include a quartet of Newcastle United players. Anthony Gordon, Harvey Barnes, Elliot Anderson and Tino Livramento are possible shouts as well as talented Leeds United youngster Archie Gray.

Gordon is perhaps the most unlikely of all the names given that he featured in England’s most recent friendlies against Brazil and Belgium, standing him in good stead to be on the plane for Euro 2024.

Barnes meanwhile has played for England before in a friendly against Wales but failed to really make a name for himself on the international stage. Anderson and Livramento meanwhile face plenty of competition for their respective positions.

Gray is still only 18 but has become a mainstay in Leeds’ starting XI as they bid to return to the Premier League. He was also a part of Lee Carsley’s Under-21s squad for their March internationals.

What would their chances of going to Euro 2024 look like?

Aside from Gordon it’s fair to say that none of the other names mentioned will almost certainly not be included in Gareth Southgate’s squad but when asked if there was a chance for anyone who switched allegiance to the Tartan Army of going this summer, Scotland number two John Carver didn’t hold out much hope.

“I would be very surprised because loyalty is massive,” Carver said.

“It is important to give these guys who have been loyal, and who have done really well for this national team, an opportunity to be in that squad of 23.

“I think we are almost settled on what we are going to take away.

“I’d be very surprised if somebody comes out from nowhere. Unless we find somebody who’s like, ‘Wow’ — an outstanding player.”

Carver continued: “I am not going to go down this street of Anderson and Gordon and all this lot because I’ve had enough of that. I am sick of talking about that.

“If somebody comes from nowhere I would be very surprised.

“But we are looking at all the options for the future — because we have to take it further again after the Euros.”
