Sir Jim Ratcliffe could look to Keane for inspiration
Roy Keane could reportedly make a return to Manchester United if the opportunity came about under incoming minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
Keane spent 13 years at United, winning seven Premier League titles in that time, however he left under a cloud in 2005 after publicly criticising his teammates during an interview with MUTV.
A large portion of United fans are still avid supporters of Keane – who has been extremely critical of the current regime at Old Trafford.
Former United teammate Steve Bruce believes that the former midfielder would leap at the chance to return to the club on a full-time basis to try and turn their fortunes around.
“It wouldn’t surprise me to see Roy take up a role at Man United,” he explained to The Irish Examiner.
“We all know how highly he’s thought of at the club as he was there for 13 years and served as a huge captain for them. Who knows? I’m sure he’d be open to any discussion.”
Ratcliffe is expected to complete his acquisition of a 25 per cent stake in the club imminently.
He will take charge of the club’s sporting affairs in his new role as the Red Devils look to end their long wait without a Premier League title.
Before the British billionaire has even set foot in the door there have been several changes made.
Chief executive Richard Arnold has already confirmed he’ll be leaving at the end of the year while football director John Murtough’s position is under review after several poor transfer windows.
