Rio Ferdinand has claimed that Lionel Messi unfollowed Alejandro Garnacho on Instagram due to the youngster's preference to Cristiano Ronaldo.
Garnacho scored one of the best goals in Premier League history on Sunday, unleashing a superb overhead kick in third minute of Manchester United's 3-0 win against Everton.
Afterwards, the 19-year-old performed Ronaldo's iconic celebration and has previously stated that his former United teammate is his idol.
During his latest Vibe with Five podcast, Ferdinand reacted to the youngster's decision to copy Ronaldo, saying: "You know what I like about him? He doesn't give a f***.
"Garnacho told me that Messi unfollowed him just because he makes no secret of preferring Ronaldo.
"He comes out, don't care, 'I'm a Ronaldo man'. Who's the GOAT? Ronaldo. (Even) when he's in the Argentina squad."
Back in 2022, fans claimed that Messi had unfollowed Garnacho after he posted a picture of Ronaldo in which he called the 38-year-old the greatest of all time.
That came just weeks after the winger had refereed to the Argentina captain as an "idol" in a separate Instagram post.
