Ferland Mendy, meet your new teammates: Eden Hazard, Luka Jovic, Eder Militao and Rodrygo
Real Madrid have taken their summer spending close to the £300 million mark after announcing their fifth signing of the transfer window so far: Lyon left-back Ferland Mendy.
Madrid have purchased the French international for a fee of £42.7 million - a not inconsiderable sum to add to the amounts already paid for Hazard (£90m), Jovic (£54m), Militao (£45m) and Rodrygo (£40.5m).
The 24-year-old, who most recently earned his third cap for France in their 4-0 win over Andorra in their Euro 2020 qualifier on Tuesday, has signed a six-year contract at the Bernabeu.

After the announcement of the deal, the Ligue 1 side revealed the fee between the two clubs was €48 million (£42.7m) with add-ons totalling €5m (£4.5m), which now makes Mendy the most expensive defender in La Liga history.
It's something of an meteoric rise for the player, who was starring for Ligue 2 side Le Harve before joining Lyon in 2017 for just 5 million euros, and could mean longterm left-back Marcelo leaves the team this summer - with a move to rejoin former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo at Juventus reportedly on the cards.
