Campaign group, Object, have called for the player to be suspended
A Premier League club is facing pressure to suspend the international footballer arrested Monday over the alleged rape of two women.
The unnamed man was arrested in north London over an alleged attack that took place last month. It was later revealed he was also being quizzed about rape allegations against a different woman last year.
The man, in his 20s, was bailed until August, after spending around 30 hours in police custody.
Feminist campaign group calls for player to be suspended with immediate effect
On Wednesday, Telegraph Sport reported that campaign group Object, a group of feminist campaigners, have called for the world-renowned footballer to be suspended.
"Of course the club should suspend him pending investigations and make a public announcement to that effect," the group told the publication.
"Without prejudicing any verdict, we know that such cases are often dropped and the likelihood of a conviction is minute and will not happen for years, if at all."
It is unclear if the player will take part in the club's pre-season fixtures. The Premier League season is due to start on August 5 and the player was also set to be in contention to feature for his nation at this year's World Cup in Qatar.
