The penalty miss summed up Arsenal's evening as nothing went right for the hosts and Chelsea legend Frank Lampard, who knows a thing or two about spot kicks, was perplexed by Aubameyang's run-up.
Aubameyang approached the ball straight-on but was forced to check his run to his left before making contact and Lampard, who scored 43 penalties in the Premier League, had no idea why Arsenal's record signing decided to add another element to the penalty.
"You see what I don't understand, he started very straight and then he makes this run out to come on the angle," Lampard said.
"I don't understand why complicate the run-up. You're giving yourself a problem.
"I used to take penalties with a straight run-up. If you take a straight run-up - take a straight run-up!
"I don't understand the bend. All of a sudden you're giving yourself something to think about, then the mind-games start. I do like it - and it might be old fashioned - make your mind up and your run-up stays as it is."Explore more on these topics:
