Manchester United have made contact with Sander Berge’s representatives over the potential signing of the Norwegian international, Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic has confirmed.
It is understood that Burnley would be open to selling the 26-year-old as they prepare for a return to the Championship under new manager Scott Parker.
Berge was an almost ever-present in the Clarets’ side last season as they finished 19th in the top flight, making 37 appearances.
Emerging as a surprise candidate, Berge fits the midfield profile Erik ten Hag’s side are looking for.
Despite the Clarets’ relegation to the second tier, Berge was widely regarded as one of the standout players in East Lancashire.
He scored once against Fulham during the season and provided two assists.
The Red Devils’ interest in the player has received a mixed reception from fans.
