Man City could be hit with a points deduction

The head of the independent commission assessing Manchester City's alleged financial rule breaches is an Arsenal member. On Monday it was revealed that City had been charged with 'numerous breaches' of financial rules following a four-and-a-half year investigation by the Premier League. The BBC reports that Murray Rosen KC will oversee the proceedings which could result in the current Premier League champions being hit with a points deduction or even face expulsion from the top flight. According to his profile on barristers website 4 New Square, he is an Arsenal member. As head of the league's judicial panel, Rosen will also select the individuals who will sit alongside him on the commission to consider all of City's alleged rule breaches. Arsenal and Man City are currently fighting it out for the Premier League title, with the Gunners currently leading at the top by five points with a game in hand. A statement from the Premier League confirmed that "commissions are independent of the Premier League and member clubs." They said: "The members of the Commission will be appointed by the independent Chair of the Premier League Judicial Panel, in accordance with Premier League Rules W.19, W.20 and W.26. "The proceedings before the Commission will, in accordance with Premier League Rule W.82, be confidential and heard in private. Under Premier League Rule W.82.2, the Commission’s final award will be published on the Premier League’s website. "This confirmation is made in accordance with Premier League Rule W.82.1. The Premier League will be making no further comment in respect of this matter until further notice." Related links:
