Any hope with which Manchester United supporters woke up on transfer deadline day has quickly been quashed by Jose Mourinho.

United look set to go through the full transfer window without signing a centre-half, in spite of Mourinho's well-documented desire to add a high-profile central defender to his ranks. Mourinho recently vented his frustration about his club's lack of summer spending, with Fred the only big-money arrival.
