The Club World Cup is here and the tournament nobody really asked for will kick off with a mega $1bn prize pot and 32 teams from around the world.

The tournament kicks off in the USA and will add 63 games to the competitive football calendar, starting with Inter Miami versus Egyptian side Al Ahly at 1am BST on 14 June.

It will be followed by Bayern Munich at 5pm on Saturday, where they will be taking on the smallest club in the tournament, New Zealand minnows Auckland City. European champions PSG will then take on Atletico Madrid at 8pm before Porto versus Brazilian side Palmeiras.

Fans can watch every game of the Club World Cup completely free if they sign up to DAZN, which secured the rights to every game in the tournament.

The tournament will include group stages followed by a knockout tournament. The final will be played on 13 July.

Who is competing in the Club World Cup?

There are 32 teams split across all six worldwide football confederations. The European contingent includes the winners of the four previous Champions League titles - that means Manchester City, Chelsea and Real Madrid are all included.

Atletico Madrid are the second Spanish side to qualify thanks to their superior performance in Europe’s top competition, while PSG, Inter, Juventus, Porto, Benfica, RB Salzburg, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund also qualify.

The likes of Liverpool, Barcelona and Napoli are all left out because of a rule that means only two teams from each country can qualify.

The European sides join African clubs Al Ahly, Esperance de Tunis, Mamelodi Sundowns and Wydad in the tournament. The Asian sides include Urawa Red Diamonds, Ulsan, Al Ain and Al Hilal.

South American giants Palmeiras, Botofago, Fluminense, River Plate and Boca Juniors will meet North America’s LAFC, Inter Miami, Pachuca, Monterrey and Seattle Sounders will have home continent advantage in the tournament.

How much will each team earn?

The total prize pot for the tournament is expected to be $1bn, making it one of the most lucrative club tournaments in history. It matches the Champions League for prize pots and the winner will get around $125m of that total revenue.

Each team is expected to earn around $50m minimum from the tournament, which has an all-new trophy too.
