Gary Neville explains why Mauricio Pochettino is the right ‘fit’ for Man Utd

Neville believes that Pochettino is the perfect long-term option for the managerial role at Old Trafford

Gary Neville has admitted that he would like to see Mauricio Pochettino become the next Manchester United manager and described him as the perfect "fit" for the role at Old Trafford. Pochettino was heavily linked with the job after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked but his current side Paris Saint-Germain were insistent that the Argentine would not leave the Parc de Princes before the end of the season at least. Ralf Rangnick was instead appointed on an interim basis until the end the 2021/22 campaign and will move into a consultancy role on a two-year deal afterwards, with Pochettino in line to potentially replace the German in the dugout. United have yet to really hit the ground running since Rangnick's arrival either and were held to a disappointing draw against relegation-threatened Newcastle United on Monday night as Edinson Cavani came off the bench to rescue a point in the North East. The former Tottenham Hotspur boss has had long-term admirers at Old Trafford and Neville feels he has all the necessary attributes to be successful at United. He’s managing big stars, characters and personalities. “I’ve always liked him and the way in which he has operated. I think he fits the club, he works with young players as well. “He gets the best out of players. He’s a good coach. But also I think he works people the right way. “But he’s got a job at Paris Saint-Germain, and if he does well there, they obviously won’t let him go.” United will look to close the gap on fourth-placed Arsenal on Thursday (30 December) when they play Burnley at home.
