An Everton fan has received a four-year banning order and eight-week suspended prison sentence for throwing a plastic bottle towards Aston Villa players.
Rodger Tweedle, 19, admitted to throwing a missile onto the playing area of Goodison Park – which hit both Matty Cash and Lucas Digne – on January 26.
Tweedle was given an eight-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months and ordered to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work alongside his four-year ban at Sefton Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, as per the Mail.
He was also ordered to pay a fine of £200, £85 in costs and another round £128 towards a fund for victims of crime. His sentence will also include a primary mental health treatment and all work carried out must be under probation.
District judge Paul Healey confirmed that the length of the sentence had gone beyond the usual duration for the offence due to the circumstances.
He said: “Over recent years efforts have been made to address inappropriate behaviour at football matches, CCTV has been installed that covers the crowd, yet still this behaviour persists it seems.
“Your behaviour was disgraceful.”
Lydia Durkin, who prosecuted Tweedle, said that the 19-year-old had accepted that he had thrown the bottle with the intent of hitting an opponent player and was caught on CCTV celebrating after throwing it – leading to his arrests in the stands.
Meanwhile Marcela Salter, who was defending Tweedle of Cranehurst Road, Walton said: “This was an act of frustration but was followed with immediate regret.”
