The result leaves United bottom of the Premier League table and means that the Dutch coach has made the worst start of any Man United manager in over 100 years. Ten Hag is the first Red Devils coach to lose his first two matches since John Chapman in 1921.

The Dutch coach is said to be unhappy with how Man United have conducted their transfer business this summer. The club reportedly promised Ten Hag that they would bring in at least five new players this summer. John Murtough, United's 'football director', has only managed to sign three new players, however. Man United have also struggled to land their top targets, or move on unwanted players. Ten Hag cancels Man United's day off after Brentford disaster.

Meanwhile, Ten Hag has cancelled a scheduled day-off for the Man United squad, according to The Sunday Times. The former Ajax coach reportedly 'tore into' his underperforming team after they were humiliated by Brentford. The squad arrived back in Manchester on Saturday night and were due to have Sunday off.
