Eduardo Camavinga has defended his teammate Jean-Clair Todibo after he was filmed laughing during the minute's silence in memory of those who have lost their lives Israel-Gaza conflict, as well as a teacher killed in Arras.
The incident took place before France's 2-1 win against the Netherlands at the weekend and Todibo's reaction led to widespread criticism across social media.
"Jean-Clair Todibo's laughter during the minute of silence at #Euro2024 is disgraceful. Respect for victims is non-negotiable. An immediate and genuine apology is expected," said one fan.
"He needs to be fired for his lack of respect!!! If the victim would have been his father, would he have laughed?" another wrote.
A third person commented: "We don't need this kind of buffoon in the France team"
But despite the backlash, Camavinga has come out in support of his teammate and insisted that it wasn't what everyone thought it was.
Translated by RMC Sport, the Real Madrid man said: "I have not really kept up with all that (the incident). You have to know that JC (Jean-Clair Todibo) is a good person. It has simply been misinterpreted."
Todibo was an unused substitute during the game, in which France beat the Netherlands 2-1 to book their place at Euro 2024.
