Two down, six to go

Spurs fans, rejoice

Dele Alli is set to sign a new contract with Tottenham Hotspur that will lift his weekly wage from £60,000 to £100,000, according to the Evening Standard.

Alli becomes the second high profile Spurs player to sign a new deal at Tottenham after talisman Harry Kane signed a new six year deal on Friday.

The club are hoping to tie down Christian Eriksen, Jan Vertonghen, Eric Dier, Son Heung-min and Kieran Trippier to new contracts this summer too.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino signed a new five year deal recently too, which could prove to be the most important renewal of them all.

A lot has been made of the possibility of Spurs’ star players leaving this summer if the club do not raise their wages to match those of star players at rival clubs, but Kane and Alli both renewing their deals should encourage others to do the same.

Kane and Alli will now go into the World Cup with their minds at rest having committed their futures to Spurs.

The future of Toby Alderweireld is still undecided, with Manchester United circling, prepared to give the Belgian his £150k wage demands, but Daniel Levy is playing hardball. United have lined up three alternatives in case their pursuit for Alderweireld fails.
