Chelsea set to smash transfer record for third window in a row with big-name signing

The Blues have spent over £1bn over the course of the last three transfer windows but have failed to turn their fortunes around on the pitch.

Their latest defeat, a 4-1 hammering to the hands of Newcastle United, has left them in 10th place and a million miles away from returning to European football.

Can they persuade one of the hottest prospects in football to join without European football?

In a bid to try and climb the table, Chelsea are resorting to the one thing that always gives them a sense of false hope: spending ludicrous amounts of money.

According to TalkSPORT, Mauricio Pochettino's side will break the bank to sign Napoli forward Victor Osimhen in January after being given an indication that the forward could be available.

Last season the Nigerian scored 31 goals across all competitions as Napoli went on to win their first Scudetto in 33 years and has six to his name this campaign.

He was linked with the likes of Manchester United and has also reportedly been on Arsenal's radar.

Any deal to sign him will come at a hefty price however, with the 24-year-old supposedly valued at £120m - a fee that would eclipse the British transfer record.

In January 2022, Chelsea blew the previous record out of the water by paying £106m for Enzo Fernandez only to smash it in the summer when they paid £115m to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton.

Osimhen seems like he would be keen on a move to Stamford Bridge.

Speaking on John Obi Mikel’s ‘Obi One’ podcast he said: "I don’t have a boyhood Premier League team but I have two jerseys from my brother because I played grassroots football.

"I had one with Chelsea and one with Manchester United – the one with Vodafone on it.

"A lot of my friends were Chelsea fans and a few Manchester United, but in Nigeria, everyone watches Premier League."
