Chelsea facing ‘severe’ points deduction if found guilty of breaching FFP

It would be worse than Nottingham Forest and Everton's

The Blues' spending has caught the eyes of everyone, spending over £1bn on new players since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital's takeover back in 2022.

Under the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules, clubs aren't allowed to lose more than £105m over a three-year period.

Forest and Everton have both been found guilty of breaching the rules and have been handed points deductions. The former were deducted four points and now sit in the relegation zone whereas Everton had six taken off after a successful appeal saw it reduced from 10.

Mauricio Pochettino's side are yet to be charged but will probably have to sell a number of their high earners to balance the books at Stamford Bridge, especially given that they could miss out on European football for a second consecutive season.

And financial expert Stefan Borson believes that Chelsea could face a far bigger points deduction than the two sides already punished.

Speaking on TalkSPORT, he said: "Possibly more severe (than Forest and Everton).

"I think the scale of the losses they're currently forecasting, to me, appear to be vastly in excess of both Everton and Nottingham Forest."

Explaining on Chelsea's situation, he said: "There was an assumption with Mason Mount, because he was announced on Manchester United's website on July 1 that [his sale] had been put into this current season.

"So the £55million of profit was in this season. It now transpires that Mason Mount appears to have been transacted in 2022/23 and that is how they got through [FFP rules]."
