Former Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas had huge praise for Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold after the full-back’s quick thinking on a corner helped send the Reds through to their second Champions League final in two years.

Alexander-Arnold created the fourth and decisive goal for his team after spotting the Barcelona players asleep whilst defending a corner. He quickly played the ball in hard and low, right into the feet of Divock Origi, who simply had to make sure he hit the target with his effort to score such was the pace on the ball.

Fabregas immediately took to Twitter to praise Anfield’s newest homegrown hero, rubbishing claims that it was simply bad defending from Barcelona’s standpoint and placing the emphasis on the 20-year-old right back’s brilliance instead.

He wrote: “Alexander-Arnold, 20 years old. People will tell me it’s bad defending, I’m telling you it’s pure intelligence and vision.”

It’s meaningful praise considering it’s coming from one of the best passers to ever grace the Premier League, who has 111 assists to his name in the competition.

And that’s without taking into account that Fabregas has been a fan of Barcelona since childhood, along with being a very successful player there, and surely would have been disappointed or even angry to see his team crash out of the competition in such fashion.

It’s clear that this Liverpool team under Jurgen Klopp is something special. It’s also clear that in Alexander-Arnold, they have a very special young player on their hands.
