Brentford fans chanted “you let your country down” at Tottenham striker and England captain Harry Kane on his return to Premier League action.
The 29-year-old striker started to club football in the starting lineup for Spurs as they resumed their 2022-23 campaign following a six-week break for the World Cup.
Antonio Conte's team were playing Brentford away and the game was the first time that Kane had played competitively since missing a late penalty in England’s 2-1 World Cup quarter-final defeat against France.
Despite having previously hinted that he may rest all of his World Cup players, Spurs manager Conte decided to give Kane the earliest opportunity to get back into action by naming him in the starting lineup.
Although he initially received warm cheers of support from the away fans during the warm-up, the chant quickly turned against him during the game when a section of Brentford supporters sang “you let your country down” after his first touch of the match.

This prompted boos from Tottenham fans in response and chants of "He’s one of our own".
Brentford had looked like they were on their way to three points when Ivan Toney put his team 2-0 up in the 54th minute.
But Kane helped silence the home fans, including those who had been chanting at him, as he sparked a Spurs comeback.

The England striker scored a lovely header in the 65th minute before Danish midfielder Højbjerg fired home an equaliser for the North London team in the 71st minute.

The point keeps Tottenham in fourth place in the Premier League, four points clear of Manchester United in fifth and level on points with Newcastle in third.
United host Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon whilst Newcastle travel to Leicester.
Meanwhile, Brentford sit in ninth place on 20 points.
