Atletico Madrid were been reduced to 10 men after defender Felipe was sent off for in confusing circumstances shortly before half-time.
Felipe had been penalised for fouling Sadio Mane, who was on the verge of breaking through on goal. The referee, Danny Makkelie of the Netherlands, appeared to be readying a yellow card.
However, the man in the middle appeared to grow frustrated as Felipe repeatedly ignored him and walked back to his own half, and responded by brandishing a red card.

A swarm of Atletico Madrid players gathered round the referee to protest and change his mind, however it only resulted in more cards being dished out with Luis Suarez booked for his complaints.
While it initially appeared the red card had been for Felipe's dissent, UEFA later confirmed it was shown for the challenge on Mane.
