31-year-old Berto is a Haitan-American fighter, with a record of 30 wins, 23 by KO and three professional losses, but there appears to be little appetite for the fight amongst boxing fans.
Mayweather, who earned a reported $220 million from the Pacquiao fight, will match Rocky Marciano's 49 fight unbeaten record should he win, but the contractual obligation with cable network Showtime is a more likely motivating factor for the man nicknamed Money.
The 38-year-old boxer will bring an end to his 19 year professional career should the September bout be his last.
