Mixed martial arts fans will hear a familiar voice in the commentary booth for Conor McGregor’s boxing debut against Floyd Mayweather.

Former UFC welterweight challenger Dan Hardy has been confirmed as one of the commentators for the August 26 super-fight that is sure to smash pay-per-view and gate records.

Hardy, who competed against Georges St-Pierre for the UFC welterweight title at UFC 111, is set to represent the sport of MMA for Sky Sports Box Office in the commentary booth and will also contribute his expertise in studio, alongside former boxing world champions Carl Froch and Johnny Nelson.

“The 26th of August will be an historic night for Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts, and probably the biggest combat sports event of our lifetime,” Hardy said of the opportunity.

“Sky Sports Box Office is renowned for putting on huge fight nights, and I am honoured to be joining the team out in Las Vegas.

“Just to be in the ‘Fight Capital’ on that night will be a special experience, and I am very grateful for the opportunity to add a little of my MMA knowledge to the broadcast.”

Hardy regularly commentates on European broadcasts of UFC events and has been praised for his ability to break down fights in the past, with his analysis of McGregor vs. Mayweather earning plenty of plaudits last month.

“It’s great to add someone with Dan’s knowledge of MMA to our coverage,” Sky Sports Head of Boxing Adam Smith said. “McGregor’s legendary status in UFC, and the intricacies of the sport itself, are two incredibly important stories to tell – I’m sure Dan will do that brilliantly.”

You will be able to watch the most highly anticipated fight this year for the price of £19.95 and there is no better expert than Dan Hardy, whose background is in striking, who you’d want on the microphone to provide analysis of how a mixed martial artist approaches stand-up fighting.
