Fight fans can’t believe the size difference between Darren Till and Tyron Woodley

The Liverpool welterweight is ready for the opportunity of a lifetime

Darren Till is a big, big boy!

Till came face-to-face with Tyron Woodley for the first time at the UFC’s 25th anniversary press conference on Friday night, when he got the chance to size up the UFC’s welterweight champion.

Ahead of their title fight at UFC 228 on 8 September, Till and Woodley squared off with one another and the size difference between the two was laid bare.

Liverpool’s Till dwarfed the reigning 170lbs champ, who is not a small man by any means, and it became even more obvious that the Brit is unlikely to spend his career at welterweight.

‘The Gorilla’ told JOE earlier this year that he has designs on competing at middleweight and potentially as high as light heavyweight when he gets older.

The 25-year-old, who hails from Walton, will get the opportunity to become just the second Englishman to win a UFC title when he takes to the Octagon in Dallas, Texas next month.

Having missed weight for his last fight due to a family emergency the night before his weigh-in at UFC Liverpool, Till’s ability to consistently make 170lbs has been called into question but he has assured fans, as well as Woodley, that he will be coming in on point for the UFC 228 headliner.

And after getting to look into Woodley’s eyes for the first time, Till was refreshingly honest about what he saw in the defending champ.

“I always tell the truth. I saw no fear,” Till said. “He’s not scared or anything like that. He’s the champion!

“I’ll make weight. Don’t you worry about that.

“He’s the champion and I’ll give him respect as the champion but that doesn’t change anything. I’m still coming to knock him clean out on September 8.”

Till remains an underdog for his first UFC title shot, just as he was ahead of his victory over Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson’ in May, but the line shifted ever so slightly in his favour after bookmakers got a clear look at his size advantage.
