Fans praise Luton Town for committing to keeping the same kit they wore last season

The Hatters will only change their home kit once every two years

The Hatters have decided to buck the usual trend of changing home kit every season by refusing to change it after their relegation from the Premier League.

Luton announced the news in a statement on their website where they said the kit would be "rolled over for 2024/25".

The statement said: "Our iconic first ever Premier League Umbro home kit is to get an extended life as we can confirm we will continue to wear our orange 1970s-inspired home kit design."

It added: "This will also herald the start of our decision to only change our home shirt every other season, giving supporters the chance to retain shirts for longer and help with consistency of supply."

This move has proven extremely popular with fans who increasingly feel priced out of the game with rising ticket prices and the high price of club marchandise.

One fan said on X: "Club will keep home kits for 2 seasons going forward….. absolutely applaud this.

Another echoed the sentiment: "In a cost of living crisis clubs should put fans first."

Meanwhile one person wrote: "All clubs should learn from Luton. Don’t need a new shirt every season at ridiculous prices. Never used to. Well done Luton Town."

This comes at a time when the cost of football continues to hit hard on the wallets of fans.

One study by Consultancy.UK found that the average fans of 10 Premier League clubs pay more than £800 for the privilege of supporting their team for one season comprising the cost of tickets, merchandise, food and drink.

The price of a home kit for any Premier League team last season, coincidently for Luton, started at £59 and went up to as much as £80 for Fulham, Arsenal, Spurs and Manchester United shirts.

Fans of other clubs will be hoping their team might follow suit to allow them to stay up to date for longer and cheaper.
