Football fans have criticised ‘selfish’ Kylian Mbappé for choosing not to pass to Lionel Messi during a PSG attack in their 3-3 draw with Strasbourg on Friday night.

Messi’s arrival in Paris has not had the on-field impact the Parisians would have hoped for, though the Argentine magician has still popped up with 15 goals in all competitions this season.

The newly crowned Ligue 1 champions lined up with their star-studded attacking trio of Mbappé, Messi and Neymar against Strasbourg, but it wasn’t enough to secure victory, as two late goals from the home side ensured the points were shared.

Former PSG striker Kevin Gameiro gave Strasbourg the lead in the opening minutes before a brace from Mbappé put the champions back in front.

But a Marco Verratti own goal and a late equaliser from Anthony Caci levelled the scoring in injury time.

And it could have been different. Well, maybe. There has since been uproar on social media after Mbappé’s decision not to attempt a pass to the onrushing Messi, as the Frenchman turned back onto his weak foot, hoping to add another goal to his tally.

He was easily tackled by the guarding defender, which prompted criticism from fans of all different clubs.

“Mbappe is one of the most selfish players I’ve seen,” remarked on Twitter user. “Why isn’t he passing this to Messi?”

Another Twitter user concurred, saying: “The front 3 would never work in Europe because of his selfishness. One of the main reasons MSN only worked because of how unselfish & hardworking Suarez is.”

However, not all viewers were on board with this take, with many highlighting the difficulty of the pass so many wanted him to make.

“Cause Messi is a fuvkin (sic) passenger on his ship,” was one response.
