The FA have issued a statement regarding the abuse directed at Raheem Sterling during Manchester City’s loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.

Sterling was abused by a group of Chelsea fans during the game, with many observers claiming that the abuse was racist.

Sterling then posted a statement of his own this morning, which said that racist abuse from the stands is a consequence of newspapers’ irresponsible headlines and differing coverage between black players’ and white players’ private lives.

The FA have since said: “We take all allegations of discrimination extremely seriously and will work with the clubs and the relevant authorities to ensure this matter is dealt with appropriately.

“We strongly condemn all forms of discrimination and encourage all fans and participants who believe that they have been the subject of, or witness to, discriminatory abuse to report it through the appropriate channels: The FA, our County FAs or our partners Kick It Out.”
