Elliott celebrated Liverpool’s win with a red flare
The English Football Association (FA)
Liverpool defeated Chelsea at Wembley on Sunday to overtake Manchester City as the most successful team in EFL Cup history, with the Reds winning 11-10 in a dramatic penalty shootout.
After a goalless 120 minutes, all 11 players from both sides were required to take a spot-kick after a flawless display of penalties forced the shootout into sudden death.
Caoimhin Kelleher – who featured in place of first-choice shot-stopper Alisson – was the hero for Jurgen Klopp’s side, dispatching his penalty before his opposite number Kepa Arrizabalaga saw his effort fly high over the crossbar.
As expected, Liverpool swarmed the Irishman and the celebrations began. However, it appears that the FA are keen to warn Reds youngster Elliott about his conduct.

The former Fulham man was pictured with a red flare in his hand as he celebrated his side’s victory – presumably one that has been thrown onto the pitch by Liverpool supporters.

Elliott was not originally meant to be in the Liverpool squad for the clash against Thomas Tuchel’s side, however, an injury to Spanish midfielder Thiago in the warmup led to Naby Keita starting the match, and Elliott taking his place on the bench.
The 18-year-old replaced captain Jordan Henderson in the 79th minute and calmly converted his spot-kick in the shootout.
He has missed over three months of football with an ankle injury he suffered against Leeds in September, but returned to action quicker than expected. The attacking midfielder made his first appearance back against Cardiff City in the FA Cup earlier this month, where he scored just minutes after entering the field.
