FA charge Wayne Hennessey over alleged Nazi salute

The FA have charged Wayne Hennessey for his alleged Nazi salute. The allegations were made after a photograph on Max Meyer's Instagram account depicted the Welshman appearing to make the gesture. The FA then launched an investigation into the incident and have charged the Crystal Palace goalkeeper. An FA statement read: "It is alleged that a gesture he made, which was captured by a photograph and posted on social media, breached Rule E3[1] as it was abusive and/or insulting and/or improper and/or brought the game into disrepute." Hennessey has until the end of January to respond to an alleged breach of Rule E3 (2) which, according to the FA, “includes reference to ethnic origin and/or race and/or religion and/or belief.” The photo created a storm on social media after it was initially published before Meyer removed the post, and Hennessey's explanation also faced criticism.
