Basketball player Tyler Honeycutt has died after a shoot-out with American police

Honeycutt formerly played in the NBA for the Sacramento Kings, and was now signed to Moscow team BC Khimki.

The Los Angeles Police Department stated that an unnamed man died after an apparent  “self-inflicted gunshot”, following a shoot-out with police.

Police were called on Friday evening by Honeycutt’s mother after he was behaving “erratically”. The suspect then barricaded himself in a house in the Sherman Oaks area of Los Angeles, according to US media.

After a stand-off SWAT teams entered the house on Sunday morning, to find the suspect “unresponsive”, with “sustained injuries consistent with a self-inflicted gunshot wound”.

BC Khimki confirmed his death on Twitter.

Honeycutt began his career at University of California, where he was named co-MVP for 2011. The same year he was drafted to the Sacramento Kings, and made his NBA debut on December 31st, 2011. He was then traded to the Houston Rockets, before playing in Russia, Turkey and Israel.
