WATCH: Austrian goalkeeper gives up mid-game as Everton complete 22 goal rout

At least look like you're trying

Paul Moore

The goalkeeper just isn’t arsed about saving it

While most Premier League clubs use their pre-season matches as an excuse to get fitter and boost the financial coffers with some lucrative trips to China, Indonesia, USA etc, Everton adopted a different approach by choosing some whipping boys and, well, whipping the absolute shite out of them.

Their recent pre-season friendly match in Austria finished ATV Irdning 0-22 Everton. No, that’s not a typo.

Marco Silva’s side enjoy an emphatic win against the Austrians thanks to (deep breath) goals from Cenk Tossun (4), Keane, Baines, Lookman (3),  Mirallas (5), Niasse (4), Vlasic (2), Holgate and a spectacular own goal.

Ever hear any of the phrase; ‘keep your head up’, ‘play to the final whistle’, ‘salvage some pride’ or ‘at least try and pull one back?’

Well, it’s clear that the Austrians clearly couldn’t give a shit about any of them because their ‘keeper had clearly thrown the towel in at some point.

At 19-0, here’s how their ‘keeper tried to stop Nikola Vlasic as he found himself with acres of space inside the box.

Not a single f**k is given but keep watching below because this rout also featured a truly iconic own-goal.

How can you top that? Well, how about this?

It’s safe to say that Silva’s side will face sterner tests as the season develops.
