Unless you've been living under a rock, you'll know that Marseille have suspended Patrice Evra this week after he kicked an Olympien fan in the head before his side's Europa League defeat at Vitoria Guimaraes on Thursday.
Footage showed the 36-year-old former Manchester United defender aiming an acrobatic kick at a supporter at the side of the pitch during the warm-up. Unsurprisingly, UEFA have also charged the player for his actions. What followed on social media was United fans celebrating their alum's Cantona-esque behaviour, and Liverpool supporters revelling in their former nemesis' misfortune and temporary unemployment. As of course you'd no doubt expect. But the Red half of Merseyside have come under fire from their Scouse neighbours of a blue persuasion for what they see as extreme pettiness and bad form. Everton fans have rushed to defend Evra and condemn their Anfield rivals. The Toffees have memories as long as their red neighbours, and find the antagonism towards Evra for his history involving Luis Suarez decidedly distasteful. There's even some Everton fans keen on recruiting the Frenchman now he's free. Evra in the blue of Everton, playing against his loathed Liverpool? It's not beyond the realms of possibility... https://twitter.com/DJ1878EFC/status/926543926630207488 https://twitter.com/1878Terry/status/926544633634676738 https://twitter.com/GCP1989/status/926717784104501248 https://twitter.com/Dan_Check1878/status/926198052427325440 https://twitter.com/jpcoogan81/status/926571900406517761 https://twitter.com/CheddaXD/status/926750153020661761 https://twitter.com/footballfactman/status/926542776409493504 https://twitter.com/Pixiedean23/status/926214123414872065 https://twitter.com/Theboysil/status/926552194882654210 https://twitter.com/Dan_Check1878/status/926198052427325440World Cup rule change explained as third country knocked out of tournament early
