Everton have long been trying to secure outside investment in order to help them compete with the likes of Man United, City, Liverpool and Arsenal, and fans will be hoping that the mooted deal could lead to further investment by the new owners.

Of course, a more pessimistic view would be that the consortium are eager to make a quick buck, and have identified Everton as a great opportunity to do just that with a new TV deal kicking in soon...
