Harry Kane has been named as the England national team captain for this summer’s 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, beating out competition from Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson.

The Tottenham striker has been entrusted with the captain’s armband by manager Gareth Southgate, as the Three Lions go into the tournament quietly confident after slow, but steady progression in recent years.

Kane comes into the tournament in spectacular form after a Premier League season which saw him score 30 league goals. He also scored seven goals in six England appearances in 2017.

Overall, Kane has 12 goals in 23 international appearances, making him the second-highest England scorer in the squad behind Danny Welbeck.
