The Metropolitan Police Service have reminded London-based football fans who are subject to football banning orders to hand in their passports ahead of this summer's World Cup in Russia or risk arrest. The force's football unit have announced that they will be at a number of police stations in the capital on Monday, 4, and Tuesday, 5 June. A total of 132 fans in London are subject to the banning orders, which will see them barred from leaving the United Kingdom to enter Russia for the tournament, which kicks off in 10 days time. To prevent fans from doing so, police will be deployed to Heathrow Airport prior to the tournament to ensure banned supporters don't make their way there, and those who fail to hand in their passports will be liable to pursuit and ultimately arrest by the police. In a statement released on the Met's official, Sergeant Dave Hine, of the football unit, said: "We want to ensure that no fan who is subject to a football banning order is able to travel through Heathrow airport to the World Cup to watch England. Anyone with a banning order who fails to hand their passport in during the next couple of days will have a police officer knocking on their door."
