Emmanuel Petit describes ‘shocking’ scenes in Chelsea dugout during Arsenal defeat

‘You could put 20 managers on the bench and it won’t change anything at all at the moment’

Emmanuel Petit admitted that he was “very shocked” by the scenes he saw in the Chelsea dugout during their game against Arsenal on Tuesday.

Arsenal were comfortable winners, beating the Blues 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium to extend Frank Lampard’s record to six losses in as many games since returning to Stamford Bridge.

The Gunners blew their London rivals away in the first half, scoring three goals without reply and during the capitulation, Petit picked up on the attitude of the Chelsea bench.

“I was quite close to the Chelsea bench and I saw some of the players having arguments between them in the second half especially,” he told Premier League Productions.

“I was very shocked in the first half the attitude of the players, the body language, no response, no pride, no unity, no friendship.”

Petit continue his criticism, describing Chelsea’s performance as “embarrassing” and that any manager would struggle due to the size of the squad.

“I was thinking you could put 20 managers on the bench and it won’t change anything at all at the moment,” he added.

“They need to clear something in the dressing room first and then think about the manager afterwards. You can put the best manager on the bench now and he doesn’t get the right answer, there are too many players.”

Chelsea are currently 12th in the table – nine points clear of the relegation zone – but could find themselves as low as 14th if they fail to beat Bournemouth this weekend.
