Dillian Whyte’s knockout of Lucas Browne was difficult to watch

He was taken to hospital after the brutal shot

Most gave Lucas Browne the power advantage ahead of his clash with Dillian Whyte on Saturday night.

But after Whyte proved that he was the better boxer in all areas, he made it known that he possessed plenty of firepower in his hands as he finished the Australian heavyweight at the midway point of their main event match-up.

Browne had never tasted defeat in his career before this weekend but he came up short against the defending WBC Silver heavyweight champion.

The left side of Browne’s face was left streaming with blood from the early stages and the scar tissue was ripped up even more as the fight progressed.

Whyte landed at will with thudding left hooks and pinpoint jabs, ebbing away at his opponent’s confidence before the finish arrived in the sixth round.

‘The Body Snatcher’ sensed that the stoppage was on and let fly with a thunderous left hook that spun Browne around and forced him to faceplant in the centre of the ring.

The raucous celebrations at the O2 Arena were immediately muted when concerns were raised over Browne, who was out cold before he hit the mat.

Paramedics rushed into the ring and provided oxygen for the 38-year-old and a lengthy delay took place before ring announcer Michael Buffer confirmed Whyte as the winner.

Thankfully, Browne soon came to but he left the arena on a stretcher and was immediately transported to hospital as a precaution.

As for Whyte, he identified WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder as a potential opponent this summer.

“Hopefully Lucas Browne’s OK. He showed up and he tried but I knew this was going to happen,” Whyte said in his post-fight interview.

“Hopefully he’s well but, listen, Deontay Wilder where you at?

“June, where you at Wilder? Let’s go! I’m ready. Let’s get it, Deontay.

“Let’s go. No more excuses. Forget about Joshua. Joshua’s not going to be ready in time. Let’s do this in June, live at the O2.

“Let’s get it. I’m number one, baby. Let’s go!”
