Dijon hit back at PSG star’s comments following defeat to Real Madrid

At least they saw the funny side

In the end, it was a disappointing night for Paris Saint-Germain in the Bernabeu.

They’re by no means out of the Champions League yet, but two late goals for Real Madrid mean Unai Emery’s men have a sizeable task on their hands if they are to reach the quarter finals.

They’d taken the lead shortly after the half-hour mark against the European champions through Adrien Rabiot. It didn’t last too long, however: Cristiano Ronaldo levelled from the spot in first half stoppage time and then added the second seven minutes from the end. Before full time, Marcelo completed the scoring to make it 3-1.

Speaking after the match, Rabiot bemoaned the result, contrasting it with PSG’s 8-0 thrashing of Dijon last month.

“It’s all well and good putting eight goals past Dijon,” he said, “but it’s in matches like this that you have to stand up and be counted.”

Ouch.

While his brutally honest assessment is unlikely to go down well with some of his teammates, it seems Dijon – or at least the person with the keys to their official Twitter account – saw the funny side of it.

Responding to the comment, Dijon tweeted: ‘We did all we could to give PSG confidence before Real Madrid… And this is how they thank us,’ following it with a couple of laughing-face emojis.

Real Madrid travel to the French capital for the second leg early next month.
